我的学校的过去和现在英语作文六年级
My School: Then and Now
I've been going to Greenwood Elementary for as long as I can remember. My older siblings went here too, and my parents have told me stories about when they were kids and attended this same school back in the 1980s. Greenwood has been a big part of my family's life for a very long time!
When I first started kindergarten here, things looked quite a bit different than they do now. The school building itself was pretty old and rundown. The paint was chipping off the walls in the hallways and some of the floors were cracked. The playground equipment was really outdated too – just an old rusty slide, a few swings, and a merry-go-round that seemed kind of dangerous.
The classrooms didn't have any new technology like we have now either. There were no interactive whiteboards, tablets or laptops for students to use. We just had old chalkboards that made a horrible screeching noise anytime you wrote on them. My kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Thompson, had to carry a heavy TV on a rolling cart anytime she wanted to show us an educational video. Can you imagine?!
Even the cafeteria left a lot to be desired back then. The lunch ladies would serve up these really bland, mushy meals on styrofoam trays. Everything tasted kind of the same – like grainy mashed potatoes mixed with canned peas and meat! The floors were cracked linoleum and the whole place had a pretty funky smell. Definitely not the nicest place to have to eat lunch every day.
But despite the school's older facilities and lack of modern amenities, I have really fond memories of those early years. The teachers and staff were all so caring and did the best they could with what they had. We may not have had the latest technology, but we did a lot of fun hands-on activities, art projects and role-playing games to learn our lessons instead.
Recess was always a big highlight too. We'd spend every nice day out on the playground, running around chasing each other, playing kickball or just digging around in the rocks and dirt. Us kids could really use our imaginations and make up all kinds of games and adventures. I'll never forget those carefree times.
Things started changing gradually once I reached the third grade. That's when they first did a major renovation and construction project to overhaul the whole school building. It
was pretty chaotic for a while with all the noise from
jackhammers and heavy machinery. We even had to have classes in temporary trailers outside for a few months.
But once it was all finished, Greenwood looked like a brand new place! They had put in all new floors, freshly painted walls in bright colors, and built a huge addition with a new gymnasium, library and computer lab. The cafeteria got totally redone too with new kitchen equipment and a much more fun, open layout. On the playground, they'd torn out all the old, rusty equipment and installed a big, brightly colored play structure with slides, climbing walls, swings and even a zipline! The whole area got resurfaced with new rubbery ground material too instead of just boring dirt and rocks. It was like night and day compared to how it used to look.
Then over the next couple of years, the technology really started advancing at our school as well. Every classroom became equipped with giant interactive whiteboards, and we each got assigned our own tablets and laptops to use. No more smelly chalk or heavy TV carts!
The teachers also incorporated a lot more educational videos, games and online activities into our lessons to make use of all the new capabilities. Honestly, learning became a whole lot
more fun and engaging once we had those resources at our fingertips.
My favorite new addition though has definitely been the school's maker space. It's this awesome room full of building tools, art supplies, coding programs and cool technology like 3D printers and robots. Students can go work on projects in there several times a week, either following guided lessons or tinkering on our own creations. I've made the neatest things, like a simple motor-powered car entirely out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands!
Overall, Greenwood Elementary has changed so much in the several years I've been a student here. We went from a pretty outdated, rundown place to one of the nicest, most modern elementary schools around. While I definitely have nostalgic memories of how things used to be, I'm really glad we were able to get all the renovations, technology upgrades and new facilities. My learning experience has been so much richer and more engaging because of it.
I can't wait to see how Greenwood continues evolving over the next few years too. From what I've heard, they may be looking to go totally green and install solar panels and a wind turbine to make the whole school its own self-contained
renewable energy generator. Maybe they'll build an awesome outdoor learning
