Elizabeth and Jane
From the very beginning, Elizabeth is impressed by Mr. Darcy’s bad manners (in Elizabeth opinion)—arrogance, his conceit and his selfish disdain for others. This is probably because in the party, Mr. Darcy would rather stay alone than dance with lovely Elizabeth, and even says that no women in this party is so beautiful and elegant to arise his interest. From this ,we can see there is also a shortcoming in her personality. She makes her decision too hastily upon her first impression. She rejected Mr Darcy`s proposal although she knows that marrying him means she can live a luxury and comfortable life . This also shows us that Elizabeth believes marriage should be based on love and mutual understanding . Holding a prejudicial opinion on Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth comes across Mr. Darcy again and again. Maybe this is the fate, they get chances to know more about each other . Gradually, Elizabeth overcomes her own prejudice at Mr darcy. No doubt, Elizabeth find more merit on Mr. Darcy, and acceptes his proposal.
This reminds me of another popular female character Jane Eyre from the famous novel written by Charotte Brontte . In large measure , these two characters are much alike :They are not endowed with dazzling beauty. They possess the unique charm brought by knowledge they obtain from books. They require the equal right in pursuit of love and never meekly surrender themselves to oppression or maltreatment. They also claim that people should accept their true features. Although these two characters have many in common , still there is a important difference which distinguishes them obviously. When thinking about elizabeth , we are more impressed by her wit and quick-minded. As to Jane Eyre , it is her persuit for equality that makes her
unforgettable. I always remember the classic dialogue“Do you think I can watch another woman become your bride? Do you think, because I’m small and poor and plain, that I have no soul or heart? Well, you are absolutely wrong! I have as much soul and heart as you! It is my spirit that speaks to your spirit! We are equal in the sight of God!”Jane`s suffered a lot because of her persuit for equality , but she never gives up . Finally she met with Rocherster who treat her equally as an individual.
