F.Scott Fitzgerald and His Great Gatsby
F. Scoot Fitzgerald and His Great Gatsby
As we all know, F .Scoot Fitzgerald is a great writer. Firstly, let us learn him well. F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September24, 1896. And he was raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. As an intelligent child, he was sent to a New Jersey boarding school in 1911. Despite being a mediocre student there, he managed to enroll at Princeton in 1913. But the academic troubles and apathy plagued him throughout his time at college. So he did not graduated, instead enlisting in the army in 1917, at the same time the World WarⅠ neared its end. Fitzgerald became a second lieutenant, and was stationed at Camp Sheridan, in Montgomery, Alabama. There he met his love, a beautiful girl, who named Zelda Sayre. But Zelda Sayre was interested in wealth, fun, and leisure, which led her to delay their wedding until he could prove a success. In 1920, because of the publication of This Side of Paradise, Fitzgerald became a literary sensation, earning enough money and fame to convince Zelda to marry him. After several years, F. Scoot Fitzgerald is one of the most influential American writers of the twentieth century, and his masterpieces include The Beautiful and the Damned, The Great Gatsby, and Tender Is the Night. Upon his dearth in 1940, he left behind an unfinished novel, The Love of the Last Tycoon which was published posthumously. In fact, F. Scott Fitzgerald's life is a tragic example of both sides of the American Dream - the joys of young love, wealth, success, and so on.
Now, we talk about his great novel The Great Gatsby. In nineteen twenty-five, just five years after his first novel appeared, F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby. Maybe, it was a major event in American writing. The Great Gatsby is one of the greatest literary documents of this period, in which the American economy soared, bringing unprecedented levels of prosperity to the nation. After finished reading the novel, I think it is a story about appearance and reality, love and hate, loyalty and disloyalty. Jay Gatsby is the main character in the book, and he is a self-made man. Almost everything about his life is invented even his name. He was born Jimmy Gatz. As a child, Jimmy Gatz sets a daily program of self-improvement. These are the things he feels he must do every day to make himself a success. When Jimmy Gatz invents himself as Jay
Gatsby, part of his dream of success is the love of a beautiful woman who named Daisy, and the other part of his dream is to be very rich.
That is to say, it also is the part of Fitzgerald’s dream. Like Fitzgerald, Gatsby gains more money than he thought possible. He considers that all he needs to do is to claim the girl he loves. However, after same three years, Daisy has married someone else. When Gatsby seeks to renew his earlier love, Nike Caraway said, \"I would not ask too much. You cannot repeat the past.\" Gatsby answered, \"Cannot repeat the past. Why, of course you can!\" At last, the tragic happened. They hit a woman who is her husband’s lover, and killed the woman. In order to protect Daisy, Gatsby replaced Daisy to accept the blame, so Daisy will not be charged. Then Gatsby was killed by the dead woman’s husband. After Gatsby’s death, the storyteller, Nike Caraway said, \"I thought of Gatsby’s wonder when he first recognized the green light at the end of Daisy's boat dock. He had come a long way to this blue lawn. His dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to hold it.” The story is told by a third person. He is a part of the story, but he rejects the story he is telling. The chorus in the play tells us what to think about what we see. Through the novel, we can learn that The Great Gatsby represents Fitzgerald’s attempt to confront his conflicting feelings about the Jazz Age. Like Gatsby, Fitzgerald was driven by his love for a woman who symbolized everything he wanted, even as she led him to everything he despised. Sometimes people use wealth, power, and status to measure love; however they have not pay attention to the truth love. In fact, Daisy did not love Gatsby, but Gatsby use his life to love her. We think that it is not worthless for Gatsby to love Daisy. Maybe Gatsby’s love is great, he moved everyone but did not move Daisy.
By the novel, we can learn that we love someone who is worthy to be loved. Facing to the love, we must use our heart to feel, and choice a right love. Maybe Gatsby’s love is great, he moved everyone but did not move Daisy.
